As the regular season approaches, the last NFL preseason game serves as a final opportunity for teams to “dress rehearsal” for the season. Therefore, it is normal for clubs to give their starters game action prior to the start of the season. But with Derek Carr as their new quarterback, it doesn’t appear that will be happening for the New Orleans Saints.
New Orleans Saints head coach Dennis Allen said during a news conference that Derek Carr would not participate in Sunday night’s preseason finale against the Houston Texans.
New Orleans Saints beat reporter Nick Underhill tweeted, “Dennis Allen said that Derek Carr won’t play this week.”

There were several responses to Allen’s announcement there.
Given that Carr is still getting to know the Saints’ playbook and is a new addition to the squad, this is an unexpected move.
I feel like this is a mistake https://t.co/0EMrxXV7Ku

Carr started the Saints’ lone preseason game, a victory over the Kansas City Chiefs in which he completed 6 of 8 passes for 70 yards and a score. That means Carr won’t get any other live practice time until the regular season begins.
